TORONTO SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL PRESENTS THE 2007 OPERA STUDIO PERFORMANCE OF THE BARBER OF SEVILLE
WHAT:
Toronto Summer Music Festival’s Opera Studio is a four-week program under the directorship of Artistic Director, Agnes Grossmann. The program, unique to Ontario, includes voice master classes with Toronto Summer Music Academy voice faculty: Russell Braun, Edith Wiens, Darryl Edwards and Lorna MacDonald as well as Italian language coaching and a career development workshop. The participating singers have been auditioned from across Canada and the program culminates in four fully staged performances of The Barber of Seville by G. Rossini from August 16-19.
WHO:
Led by Artistic Director, Agnes Grossmann, with stage direction by Michael Patrick Albano, participants of the Opera Studio will be joined by the National Academy Orchestra. The cast includes, Phillip Carmichael as Figaro, Cory Knight as Conte, Tyler Kuhnert as Bartolo, Erin Lawson as Berta and Iasmina Sandra Pataca as Rosina. Due to the high caliber of singers auditioned, two casts have been chosen to perform. Pre-performance talks will also be hosted by Iain Scott and an opera worshop for young music lovers will be hosted by Clayton Scott and the Gardiner Museum.
